OCS 2007 R2 Upgrading the Evaluation to Full Released Version

As expected in my demo environment, the evaluation version of OCS 2007 Standard Edition, expired June 13th. But luckily enough, Microsoft had already published their document "OCS 2007 R2 Upgrading the Evaluation to Full Released Version", available for download here, and online available here.

And it does work as described :-) as can be seen in the pictures below.

Step 1. Front End Service does not start anymore

On my OCS2007 R2 Standard Edition server, the Microsoft Office Communications Server Front-End service was not running, and could not be launched.

The error message given, didn't really help a lot, but looking at the event viewer, it was clear why the Front-End service refused to start.

Step 2. Upgrading to the Full Released Version

To upgrade to the full released version, you need to run setup, and add a few parameters.

The option /l*v is not required, but I added it to get additional logging in the given log file.

Setup will launch, and after less than 5 minutes it completes :-)

And looking at the log file created, Windows Installer did reconfigure the product.

Step 3. Checking if the upgrade completed successfully

Going back to the services, it did seem the process itself does not start the service..after Starting the Service, I was happy to notice it did complete successfully!

After completing this upgrade, I updated my consolidated Edge as well, same process, no issues.
